The Black Feminist Project: Where Radical Joy and Resistance Meet

The Black Feminist Project: Where Radical Joy and Resistance Meet

“The Black Feminist Project enriches the lives of, restores agency, justice, joy, and health to Black Womxn, girls, and non-men, often referred to as marginalized genders, or MaGes, and the children they care for - with an emphasis on mother-led families. The nonprofit organization crafts accessible, multigenerational, radical, women-led programs void of jargon that engage the folks who are most impacted by racist and sexist policies and cultural norms.” “Black Joy Farm is the result of a 7-year community led campaign to create a radical food growing green space in the South Bronx. We have solidified the space as a safe, healthy, bold space where MaGes are nurtured to be their full selves, un-policed and judgement free. “Inspired by her experiences as a single working mother living in a marginalized community, Tanya Denise Fields founded the Black Feminist Project in 2009 as a response to sexist institutional policies, structurally reinforced cycles of poverty, and harsh inequities in wealth and access to capital that result in far too many women being unable to rise out of poverty and sustain their families.” Follow and Support The Black Feminist Project: Website: https://www.theblackfeministproject.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theblackfeministproject Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theblackfeministproject @theblackfeministproject Twitter: https://twitter.com/blkfeministproj @blkfeministproj Thank you to Guerrilla Foundation for funding this video of solutions. https://guerrillafoundation.org Co-produced by Jasmine Hayden, Robin Greenfield and Jameson Johnson Filmed by Jasmine Hayden: https://www.instagram.com/herewegrow.productions @herewegrow.productions Edited by Jameson Johnson Robin Greenfield’s work is Creative Commons and this content is free to be republished and redistributed, following the terms of the creative commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 license. The BIPOC Community Garden- Connecting Food and People through Gardening

The Jane Minor BIPOC Community Medicine Garden is a sanctuary for Black, Indigenous and People of Color to come together to connect with the Earth, the plants, the community, and with themselves. The garden has communal beds for all to freely enjoy, tend and harvest, as well as individual beds for folks to steward. The garden also has a community herb drying shed and a lending library of herb books and tools. Classes, work parties, food and medicine mutual aid and garden events happen regularly throughout the growing season. The garden is located on Onöñda’gega’ land, just southeast of Ithaca, NY. "Amanda David is a community herbalist, the mother of three amazing children, and the creator of Rootwork Herbals and the many initiatives that are a part of that container. She tends plants and people growing gardens, handcrafting remedies, offering consultations and teaching. Her approach to herbalism is based in the ways of her ancestors, building intimate relationships with the plants that grow nearby in order to bring herbal medicine and home healthcare to the people. In doing this, she sees herbalism as a means to support life and thus resist against oppressive systems, which undermine health. Above all, Amanda is a lover of plants and a lover of people and is passionate about bringing them together in a down to earth, joyful and accessible way that promotes personal and planetary healing." Diverting 320,000 Pounds of Food Scraps by Bike!

"BK ROT is New York City's first community-supported, bike-powered, fossil fuel free food waste hauling and composting service. Their project is staffed by young people of color who haul residential and commercial organic waste and transform it into high quality compost. Their operations provide accessible jobs and sustained professional development for emerging environmental leaders. They are designing and implementing a new kind of waste system, one that uses food waste as the foundation for a healthy urban ecosystem, that uplifts the people and places responsible for managing waste, and that demonstrates the power of a regenerative green economy. They are supporting the next generation of environmental and climate justice leaders who will shape our city."
